What factors will influence the flame-retardant property?

1. Fabric Capillary Effect
The inner permeation of flame-retardant additive influence the flame-retardant durability a lot. If there is not enough flame-retardant additive in the inner fiber of fabric, even the fabric got enough weight, the fabric oxygen index is still low, there will be a fast flame-retardant performance reduction after washing. When the capillary effect is low, even after 1 time washing, oxygen index <28% ; When fabric capillary effect >8 cm/(30min),  the flame-retardant washing fastness improves greatly, even wash 12 times, oxygen index is still >28%, which reach the flame retardant standard.
 
2. The flame-retardant additive dosage
If the flame-retardant additive dosage is less, that won’t achieve the flame-retardant performance; while if the flame-retardant additive dosage is enough, after 12 time washing, the flame-retardant performance is good, but the fabric strength is high reduced, the hand-feel will become hard and sticky and it will affect cross linking and reducing the flame-retardant durability; only the flame-retardant additive dosage is in a standard level, the fabric can get a good flame-retardant property, then it can meet standard.
 
3. The cross-linker dosage
In principle, thermosetting resin which can cross-link the flame-retardant additive and fiber can be used, but in fact using, factors as the fixation temperature and fixation time and hand-feel should be considered. Cross-linker dosage mainly not affect flame-retardant performance, but it will affect the hand-feel, tear strength and durability of fabric. 
 
4. Heating temperature
When heating temperature is lower than 140℃, the tearing strength is good, but flame-retardant washing fastness is not good; when heating temperature is higher than 180℃, the fabric strength will highly reduce, and this will affect garment application performance; when heating temperature is higher than 150 ℃, lower that 175 ℃, fabric washing fastness is well performance, but tearing strength will have some degree of reduction. 
 
5. Heating Time
The heating time will directly affect the cross linking between flame-retardant additive and cross-linker, then affect washing fastness performance. Generally below the appropriate temperature (150~175 cc), longer heating time make more complete cross linking between flame-retardant additive and crossing-linker, when the heating time is too long, the fabric strength will high reduced, fabric will have embrittlement, this make fabric cannot reach garment requirement; while heating time is too short, shorter than 2.5 min, flame-retardant washing fastness. Then, heating time should be controlled in 2.5~3.5 min.
