Shrinkage problem always plagued the Chinese textile industry and it has been a "persistent" problem. For so long, the people still have not found a feasible and practical and effective solution. It is a very common issue that the shrinkage could not reach the standard, no matter in the home textile industry or in the apparel industry.
The official name for the "Shrinkage" is the dimension change rate of the goods after washing, it is refer to the contraction percentage of the textile after washing or soaking. For the shrinkage problem, the textile national standard had made stipulation as early as 2004: the dimension change rate of the superior textile products after washing could not exceed “2% -3%”, of the top quality grade could not exceed "2% - 4%”, of the qualified product could not exceed “2%–5%”.
To control the shrinkage of textiles, it must go through a pre-shrinking treatment process. It is a very big cost need to be spent both on the technology process and technical personnel. The costing will increase about 7%-8% with the pre-shrinking process, so there will be a greater price difference compared to the fabric without the pre-shrinking process. Therefore, many enterprises will omit this procedure in order to reduce the cost.
As for the Shrinkage non-compliance issue, in addition to the consideration of the business cost conscious, but also a number of enterprises did not implement the testing procedures strictly.
For example, some factories does not provide the sample strictly per the requirements, such as the sample should be 3 meters, but the factory only send 2 meters at random for testing . So this will result in the testing degree of the fabric being tested is greater than the predetermined degree, and then the result will be a miss is as good as a mile.
